Paul Klee

Paul Klee, born on December 18, 1879 was a Swiss-German artist known for his distinctive style and profound influence on modern art. He was a painter, draughtsman, and teacher who combined elements of various artistic movements, including expressionism, cubism, and surrealism, to create his unique visual language.

Klee's artistic journey began with his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he was exposed to various artistic traditions. His early works were influenced by impressionism and Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), but he eventually developed his distinctive style characterized by abstraction, geometric forms, and a playful use of colour.

Klee's subjects were diverse and ranged from landscapes and cityscapes to abstract and symbolic representations. He was deeply inspired by nature, music, and the subconscious mind.

Throughout his career, Klee experimented with a variety of materials and techniques. He created a vast body of work of over 9,000 pieces of works, using watercolours, oils, ink, and mixed media, to exploring the unique properties of each medium. His approach to art was highly intuitive and spontaneous, emphasizing the process of creation rather than strict adherence to realistic representation.

Klee was also an influential teacher, teaching at the Bauhaus school in Germany from 1921 to 1931 and later held a position at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts.
