François Levaillant

François Levaillant (1753-1824) was a French artist and ornithologist known for his significant contributions to the field of natural history, particularly in the study of birds.

Levaillant embarked on several expeditions to Africa in the late 18th century, where he meticulously observed and documented various bird species. His expeditions took him to regions such as South Africa, Namibia, and Angola, where he studied and collected specimens of birds.
