"Le Chat Noir" was a famous cabaret in Paris during the late 19th century, and Théophile Steinlen was a Swiss-born artist who created numerous advertisements and posters for the establishment. One of his most famous works is a lithograph poster featuring a black cat, which became the symbol of the cabaret.

The poster, which was created in 1896, depicts a black cat with bright green eyes sitting on top of a white fence, silhouetted against a bright yellow background. The cat is holding a red banner in its mouth, which reads "Le Chat Noir" in white letters. Below the cat is a line of text in French that translates to "The Montmartre establishment".
