The iconic image of a sailor kissing a nurse in Times Square, known as "V-J Day in Times Square," was captured by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt on August 14, 1945. This day, known as V-J Day (Victory over Japan Day), marked the announcement of Japan's surrender, effectively ending World War II.

The photograph depicts an exuberant sailor in a dark uniform spontaneously kissing a nurse in a white uniform amid a jubilant crowd celebrating in Times Square, New York City. The nurse is bent backwards in the sailor’s embrace, with her right leg slightly raised, her left arm around the sailor's neck, and her right arm hanging down.
